The number of letters already submitted to the Chairman is a closely guarded secret but is rumoured to be around 30, and far more than that have been sneakily briefing newspapers that they want him out. They're a funny breed and they all know that the first people to move against a leader are reviled as backstabbers (Heseltine famously moved too early and never became PM). The ones who make or support an alternative leadership bid last get to style themselves as the unifiers bringing order to a fractured party. It's like that old saying: the early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese. Charlie Elouisa King plenty, but traditionally they at least stuck to the golden rule: don't get caught.
